Himawari

Himawari1

I once mentionned this on here but I'll say it again, one thing I find special and enjoy about Edogawa-ku is the huge number of statues and sculptures you can find in various places. I mean you can find lots of them in parks obviously but you might want to keep your eyes open because some interesting artworks can be found in unexpected or more remote areas of the Ku. Also, not only am I surprised by the quantity of art, I'm amazed about the fact they are rarely vandalized. In North America if statues would be displayed the way they are here then you can bet your saving they would have be sure targets of vandalism. Embarassing nonetheless. Today's featured artwork is located near my appartment in Minami-kasai, near an intersection. Most people probably walk by this statue and don't even notice it's presence. It's a woman's bust and it's called Himawari (sunflower). Intriguing name to say the least, perhaps this very focused woman is constantly exposed to the sun? That's my explanation, what's yours?
