Toki Building

On retrouve tout près de la tour Funabori un imposant édifice qui abrite logements et commerces. L'immeuble s'appelle Toki (beaucoup d'immeubles à Tokyo ont des noms français en passant). Curieux, j'ai demandé à des personnes la signification de ce nom. Il s'agirait du nom de famille d'une vieille femme mystérieuse, jadis riche propriétaire, décédée il y a plusieurs années déjà.

If you look towards the Funabori Tower you will notice a large building located nearby. You can't possibly miss it. The building, classified both residential and commercial, is called Toki (by the way lots of buildings have French names, don't ask me why). I was curious about why that name had been given to the building so as usual I asked questions to my entourage. I was told Toki was the family name of a former rich and mysterious old lady, who has died a few years ago. I unfortunately don't have more details.

L'immeuble Toki fut complété en 1991, soit a peu près 8 ans après l'inauguration de la station Funabori, 8 ans avant l'inauguration de la tour Funabori. Du haut de ses 27 étages on peut admirer une belle vue de "certains secteurs" d'Edogawa et de Tokyo (vous comprendrez les guillemets plus tard).  Comme en témoigne les photos (voir en bas), c'est le meilleur endroit pour prendre des clichés de la tour Funabori. Mais attention, Toki est un immeuble privé, donc n'entre pas qui veut. Pour accéder aux balcons du haut il faut soit connaître un résident de l'immeuble... ou être lié d'amitié avec un petit malin qui sait comment s'y prendre.

The construction of the Toki building ended in 1991, approximately 8 years after the inauguration of Funabori station and 8 years before the opening of the Funabori Tower to public. From the 27th floor of the building you can admire nice views of "certain sectors" of Edogawa and Tokyo (you'll find out about the quotes later on). Also, there is where you can find the best possible view of the Funabori Tower. However, keep in mind this is a private building. Therefore, the top balconies are not open to public. If you want to go to the top you either need to know a resident of the building... or know a little cheater who specializes himself in going where you're not supposed to.

Le 27ième étage est plutôt "sombre". D'ailleurs, plusieurs logements semblaient vides lors de mon passage. De plus, on y retrouve une énorme porte grise à l'apparence austère bien différente des autres portes. Il s'agit en fait de l'appartement de la défunte Toki. La famille s'est réservée tout le côté sud de l'immeuble au dernier étage. Pourquoi? A mon avis c'est parce que dans cette direction on peut observer le mont Fuji lorsque le ciel est clair.

The 27th floor is actually quite spooky. As a matter of fact during my tour a few appartments looked empty. Also, you can find an unusual large grey and rather austere looking door too: That is where Toki was living. Why was the south side of the top level monopolized? My feeling is Toki choose to live there since on a clear day she could see Mount Fuji from there.
